She had only been a Plantscaper for a few years when she won the prestigious "Purple Orchid" award from the Architectural Digest. An invitation to design a building of waterfalls and lush gardens for world-renowned architect William Morris became her first big accomplishment. Her innovative approach to design has been studied in college classrooms where she is still asked to lecture on environmental design and entrepreneurship.
As her reputation grew, Harrah's Hotels and Casinos in Reno, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe utilized her talents. She began to design concert stages with lush greenery for entertainers that included: Captain and Tennille, John Denver, Vicki Carr, Loretta Lynn, Gatlin Brothers, The Beach Boys, The Righteous Brothers, and Willie Nelson. She also designed private homes for Mr. Bill Harrah in Lake Tahoe, a billionaire recluse, who considered Pamela among his closest friends until his passing.
In the late 80's she was one of only a few commissioned to design a Hotel Lobby Plantscape blueprint still used in major hotels today for new construction in North and South America. It incorporated built in planters with lush tall tropical greenery and waterfalls weaving through open lobbies for high-end hotels worldwide. You may have visited a hotel that she was instrumental in designing.
As a single work at home mom of twin daughters she worked hard at balancing family life and business by building her company with her children at her side. Account after account their business grew. Her daughters were now ready to go off on their own, a new husband, and an interested family from South Africa ready to buy the business she loved, was the sign she had waited for. It was time for a simpler life! When the new buyers were trained, all her good-byes said, they made the move to a sleepy little town in Northern California called San Luis Obispo.
Teaching others how to become self-employed in the business she loves had become a calling she could no longer deny. Now she would have the time to make her plant rental franchise a reality.
"If you love what you do for a living, and would do it for free if you could, it's an amazing way to live. I loved every single day of my business!”
Clients are so grateful just for showing up with their new plants. We're paid incredibly well every single month, just for doing something we enjoy, and the Christmas; what can I say? Christmas Rentals is like the biggest bonus you will ever get! Most clients don't even want different decorations each year, just bring back what I had last year and let me pay you the same exorbitant amount to do it all over again next year too! Christmas Rentals is still after all these years almost a completely untapped market. This has been an incredible career, and I can't wait to teach you how I did it." If you do plants they will soon be asking you the same question they asked me all those years ago:
"You're our Plant Lady, what are you going to do about Christmas?”
That’s a different story!
